It just blows my mind that it's been almost a year since we last chatted about our good friend, singer/songwriter Gustavo Alberto. Now fitted with the last name, Galindo, Gustavo has the Latin music world abuzz. With a debut album coming out next Spring, this dynamic troubadour has a busy schedule ahead.
| He just opened for Babasonicos and Zoe at Club Nokia. He's also doing showcases around Fashion Week, MTV Los Premios and possibly a return to SXSW 2010? Oh, did I mention we are the only outlet, besides his myspace, that has a snippet of his new song?! "Here's a sneak peak at Amor De Alta Mar, one of the songs that's being considered for the first single" Below is a great post we did last year on the boy, look out for him, we see big things for Galindo! |
So I from time to time work for Indieoma.com, a site dedicated to independent artists and culture, and from time to time I get to meet unique artists such as Gustavo Alberto. Take note all you suits! Art often starts from the family. Gustsavo's familia in fact paid for his recording sessions, fueled his early work and keeps him connected to who he is. In this two part interview I did with him in Los Angeles we chatted about his career, family, SXSW, break-ups and the great Chicano film Blood In, Blood Out! Gustavo is currently working with some high profile producers, who have produced in the past Juanes(pre-tarzan photo!), Cafianes and Molotov. I can't wait to hear the final product. Having seen him earlier this year at SX and the METV studios, Gustavo is a true talent. Pure and honest with his words and passionate with his music play. So lets hope that with all the polish to come, can you say JuanesTwo?, Gustavo doesn't lose his identity or humble attitude. Why doubt him Paul? well, lets just say I know a nice, shy guy who gave me his first interview in '99 when no one knew who he was. This shy artist meet me at a small LA club for a stirring interview. He didn't know many people and felt out of place in Los Angeles. Like Gustavo, this humble guy talked about his family, music and relationships and was working on his solo album in LA. That solo album won the shy fellow three Latin Grammys for Best New Artist, Best Rock Solo Vocal Album, and Best Rock Song. Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez best known as Juanes, was that shy man, I've tried in the past years to get an interview with him, maybe he forgot who I was, maybe he forgot our conversations and the countless others who gave him his first break. Gustavo, fame happens, so remember your passion and your family. Suits?, stay away. Juanes? Fijate bien... Catch the exclusive two-part interview with Gustavo Alberto only at www.indieoma.com
